Dear Rene, If you love Côtes du Rhône, you'll love this Vacqueyras! Simply put, it out-performs any Côtes du Rhône at this price. Vacqueyras is the value appelation in the entire Southern Rhône: Find out why! And please join us for a very special wine dinner at Taberna del Alabardero with our good friend Aurelio Cabestrero on June 26th. See the delicious details below. Don't forget our tastings: two wine tastings, including a SuperTasting on Saturday and two cheese tastings! And of course, marvelous cheese and charcuterie specials. Please come by. Doug Rosen
2005 Domaine les Ondines Vacqueryas (Rhône Red) Regular: $19.99 Half Case (6): $16.99 each Full Case (12): $14.99 each Save 25% !! (Seen elsewhere for $26.99)
From the best vintage since 1978, this dense, full-bodied Vacqueyras is the real deal - not international in style, with all the edges rounded out and the character emaciated. This is a wine with some meat on the bone! The nose shows rich cherry fruit with pronounced black licorice and subtle notes of sage, thyme and lavender. The palate shows some grippy tannins which with sufficient aeration provide a velvety cushion of dark plum fruit and black licorice. The finish gushes with a cascade of cherry fruit carrying glimmers of spice, coffee and bitter chocolate. This rich, savory wine pairs naturally with rustic mountain cheeses, grilled or roasted meats, especially lamb or duck. Just as in nextdoor, far too over-hyped Chateauneuf-du-Pape, in Vacqueyras, time has proven that the magical blend of grenache and syrah creates a symbiosis which is often quite magnificent. Wine guru Robert Parker calls these rich Rhône reds "the world's most delicious red wines." Domaine les Ondines is made of 60% grenache, 30% syrah and 10% cinsault - many of the vines over 50 years old. They use no herbicides or pesticides on their estate, and yields are exceptionally low even by the strict standards of Vacqueyras. Buy with confidence - this is another wine with an exceptional quality/price ratio - a trademark combination from importer Ed Addiss of Wine Traditions. Luxurious on the palate, but easy on the pocketbook! To order, please call 703.525.0990 or reply to this email. We need your Visa or MasterCard information including expiration date. Wine arrives tomorrow, Friday, June 20th. Enjoy! -- Graham Reid |
These are copies of emails I received from Arrowine, containing descriptions of wines I ended up buying. I take no responsibility for the statements in the emails but I do know that I liked most of the wines and they are very affordable. Note that these wines generally sell out very quickly, so chances are they are no longer available by the time you read this. The emails nevertheless contain interesting information.

2006 R Wines "Strong Arms" Shiraz, South Australia
Dear Rene, If you drink Aussie Shiraz, there is a new "must try" winery, R Wines. And the "must buy" wine from R Wines is the "Strong Arms" Shiraz. To try it at this price, though, you'll have to act fast. This special price is only good on the shipment we receive tomorrow, 112 cases. More will be coming in a few weeks, but we've already been told by our supplier that the price will be higher. We got all we could at this lower price, but it won't be enough. Don't wait, call now. Limit: 3 cases per customer. Jim Cutts
2006 R Wines "Strong Arms" Shiraz Reg. $10.99 Case Special: $8.99 per bottle "91 points--...remarkable class for its giveaway price." Wine Advocate Here is the review, and a little information about the winery, from Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate (reviewer Dr. Jay Miller): "The 2006 Shiraz is composed of 46% McLaren Vale, 44% Riverland, and 10% Barossa Valley fruit. It was aged in seasoned French and American oak for 12 months. Opaque purple-colored, it has a nose of cedar, spice box, and blueberry. Fruit-driven, supple-textured, rich, and easygoing, the wine has remarkable class for its giveaway price. It actually has 2- 3 years of aging potential but no one that I know is going to defer their gratification. Strong Arms has been bottled with 6 different but similarly themed labels. Collect them all and Dan Philips will send you a free Bacon of the Month Club catalog. There are 12,000 cases of this remarkable value. 91 points. R Wines is a new company founded by importer and marketing genius, Dan Philips, along with co-owner, renowned winemaker, Chris Ringland. Winemakers for R Wines are Chris Ringland, Lisa Wetherell, Andrew Hercock, and John Hughes. It encompasses four familiar labels, Marquis Philips, 3 Rings, Roogle, and B*tch, along with 13 others created especially for R Wines. Needless to say, the packaging of these wines is amazingly creative but, more importantly, what is in the bottle consistently over-delivers from low-end to high-end." To order please call us at 703.525.0990. We will need your Visa or MasterCard information including expiration date. Wine arrives tomorrow, Wednesday, April 23rd. As always, we thank you for your business and your support of Arrowine and the work we do. Jim Cutts |

92 Point 2006 Tait "The Ball Buster," Barossa Red, Australia
Dear Rene, Today we have two customer favorites making a return. The new vintage of Tait's "The Ball Buster" just received 92 points and we've got it! And we were able to get more of the delicious 2005 Buena Vista pinot noir that sold out in February. Doug Rosen
2006 Tait "The Ball Buster," Barossa Red, Australia Our reg. price $18.99 (and spotted on Washington DC shelves at $21.99 per bottle) Special: Buy 6 at $15.99 per bottle Case Special: Buy 12 at $14.99 per bottle "The Ball Buster" is back... and it's bigger and badder than ever. This big, bold, fruit- driven red from down under just earned 92 Points in Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "Tait has been establishing a track record for hedonistically rendered wines at consumer friendly prices for several years. Previous vintages of this wine have been smash hits and the 2006 The Ball Buster is a lock to continue the trend. It is a 15,000 case cuvee, all of which was basket- pressed, a labor-intensive process not commonly associated with a wine in this price category. The wine is composed of 78% Shiraz, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 10% Merlot aged for 12 months in used French and American oak. Purple-colored, it exhibits a classy bouquet of cedar, earth, tar, espresso, blueberry, black currants, and licorice. Supple, ripe and soft on the palate, this seamless, crowd-pleaser of a wine can be enjoyed now and over the next several years. It is an awesome value." If you like 'em big and full-flavored and you plan on grilling this summer, load up! To order, please call 703.525.0990 or reply to this email. Please note that email orders can be delayed. We will need your name, phone number, and Visa or MasterCard information with expiration date. Wine will arrive Thursday, April 10. |
